The good and bad of Thanksgiving break

If you look around campus, you may notice students carrying suitcases around in a rush.

Students have begun heading home for Thanksgiving break, eager to get off campus. Other students are less fortunate, heading to the library to finish assignments before leaving. Bryan Manyy and Nester Taylor, both sophomores at Marist College, will be spending part of Monday night in the library before heading home tomorrow.

“I can’t wait to go home for the huge meal on Thursday,” said Manyy. “It’s a nice change from the food they have in the dining hall.”

The future of NCAA Ultimate

Ultimate Frisbee has become one of the fastest growing sports in the nation. Just like many varsity sports, athleticism and skill is a tremendous factor in being a successful Ultimate player.

In recent years, two professional leagues have been created, the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) and Major League Ultimate (MLU). ESPN also reached an agreement with USA Ultimate, an organization that sanctions the sport, to broadcast games on the major sports network.

The sport is growing rapidly on the collegiate level as well, with almost 1,000 schools nationwide possessing an Ultimate team. The number of college USA Ultimate members also increased from 9,951 in 2004, to 16,058 in 2011.

Six things to do this Halloween week!

It’s that time of the year again where people are out and about dressed in crazy costumes. Halloween is this Thursday, which means many Marist students will be going out to celebrate. There are a bunch of Halloween events going on in the area this week if you are looking to celebrate off campus. If you feel like making the trip, there are a few events in New York City definitely worth checking out as well.

The importance of sportsmanship

The Marist football team lost on the final play against the Toreros at San Diego on October 12th. The game resulted in some Marist players upset by the way San Diego reacted after winning.

Marist took a 33-32 lead with five minutes remaining in the game, but San Diego drove down the field to set up a game-winning field goal. San Diego’s kicker, David Last, missed the 33-yard field goal and Marist celebrated thinking they had won the game. However, Marist was called for a penalty which allowed San Diego to attempt the field goal for a second time. Last, this time from 28 yards, made the field goal to win the game and San Diego stormed the field to celebrate.

Marist reacts to AMC thrillers

One of television’s most prominent shows, Breaking Bad, has ended after five seasons.

Breaking Bad is a crime drama television series about a chemistry teacher, Walter White, that turns to the drug business after being diagnosed with lung cancer. The series premiered on January 20, 2008 on AMC and quickly rose to fame, winning two Emmy Awards for the first season. It has been nominated for 113 industry awards, winning 45 throughout the series thus far. The series finale aired on September 29th, 2013, setting a series record for viewership. Over six million households tuned into the finale with 10.3 million viewers.

Students across the Marist campus have been buzzing about the final episode, discussing what they thought and sometimes arguing what should have happened. For others, it was figuring out what the best part of the series was. “I can only assume being asked this question is like being asked, as a parent, which of your children is your favorite. I just can’t pick one thing.” said Dave Centopanti, “The harmony of the writing, the acting, the directing, the score, the set design, all the way down to the sound mixing.” However, if he had to choose, Centopanti stated that it would have to be how Breaking Bad went out on top.
